Paul Manafort has been cooperating with the bogus Russia election meddling probe since day one. He has turned over hundreds of requested documents, and willingly met with Senate intelligence committee investigators. A day after that meeting the FBI conducted a highly unusual “no knock” raid of Mr. Manafort’s Virginia home. That is a literal break-down-the-door type of raid. It is both rare and highly aggressive, particularly in cases of the political kind.
The raid took place last month but is just now being reported on. Several of those same reports suggest the raid was initiated at the request of controversial Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Mueller, who has deep ties to the D.C. establishment, including a long friendship with ousted former FBI Director James Comey, has garnered a small army of investigators, (most of them Democrats) since being appointed to oversee the Russia probe.
Manafort was abruptly fired last summer from his position as the Trump campaign chairman after it was discovered he had business dealings with both Russian and Ukrainian interests. Since that time Manafort has remained relatively quiet even as Mueller closes in. Some think Meuller is hoping to sway Manafort to turn against the Trump White House, thus the use of such aggressive force during last month’s raid. Mueller might very well believe the raid will intimidate the longtime political operative.
